Decorating a living space is not just restricted to interiors and furniture. Any room can be given a stamp of your individuality and aesthetics by focussing on the accessories. This is where you can change the complete look and feel of a room without any major changes. You can make a room look cosy, minimalist or funky depending on the way you accessorise. If you want to complete re-decorate a space but do not want to change the basic interior framework or furniture, remove all the accessories and set a new theme. You could also constantly create new areas of interest by adding on accessories and re-arranging the setting of a room while doing so thus creating a fresh appeal.
Use indoor plants to liven up any living space and create energy and warmth. Plants which can survive without direct sunlight for a few days are Diffenbachia, Syngonium, Maranta, Pilea, Begonia and Palms—-You could air them and place them in sunlight every few days. Plants can be grouped artistically in a corner with some statues, urns etc and lighting used for subtle light and shadow effects. Urns and planters are easy on the pocket (well, not always!) and they bring in a lot of visual interest. Whether you go in for simple ones or the more expensive ones, if placed properly, an urn or a planter will highlight corners and niches that would normally be lost in the conversation of an interior space.<
Flower arrangements brighten up any space and can be used to enhance the overall appearance of a room. Coffee table arrangements for the living room can be used keeping in mind the colour scheme. Dining areas can have informal arrangements according to the setting. Crystal or silver candle holders complement a formal setting. The other options are floating flowers in a crystal bowl with candles, dry flower arrangements, Japanese floral arrangements like Ikebana and these can be placed on sideboards, consoles, end tables or in tall floor vases/urns. Avoid placing too many different types of arrangements in one room as this would clash with the overall theme and colour combination. Always maintain an element of synergy connecting the various elements of décor
